Learning Self Care at School
“Self - care is how you take your power back”. Lalah Delia
We take care of our homes, our clothes and our cars. But what about taking care of THE single most important thing or rather person in your life? YOU!!
I imagine how different my life would have been, had I learnt the self care practises at school that I’ve learnt over the last two decades of my life. The importance of daily exercise, getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, regular meditation and mindfulness practices, breathing practices, journaling, a gratitude practice and the list goes on. I imagine my teens and 20’s would have been very different, definitely less of a struggle. Less anxiety, less depression, less time in relationships that didn’t serve me, less mental anguish.
Now, all the self care tools that I’ve learnt and practise enable me to juggle all that I do (as a single mum, classroom teacher and founder of Yoga Stars) and to feel calm whilst doing it. These tools enable me to respond rather than react to people and events. These tools are what provide me with peace in my heart and in my mind. These tools are what allows me to embrace my power.
This is what I want to share with our young people. This is at the heart of why I have created Yoga Stars; “To bring peace to children's hearts and minds through yoga and wellbeing programs in schools”.
As Lalah Delia says “Self - care is how you take your power back”. My aim is to empower children and young people with the tools to embrace their own power.
Imagine if children and young people both learn and practise these self-care tools at school. Imagine if they integrate them into their lives, making self-care a daily habit. More peace of mind, more healthy bodies and more healthy relationships.
Sowing the seeds of self-care practices into children and young people, allows them to step into their power and to carry that power with them throughout their lives.
And what if we made it fun?!...
